Installation Tip: Installing the heater assembly (when the engine is in the car) is probably the most difficult and frustrating item to assemble & install correctly. When installing the 3 spring clips, you can see 2 of them from the opening on the heater housing. Install the blind one first. When installing the other 2, you can reach in the heater housing and hold them on the bottom (heater motor housing) while clipping them on the top (heater core).
If that doesn't work, try this:
We recommend drilling the 3 spring steel retaining clips and screwing them into the heater motor housing. Otherwise, they constantly fall off when trying to install. A carbide drill bit is better suited to drill the hole since spring steel can be tough to drill. Be sure the screw doesn't go all the way through the housing so the heater core sits flat. If it doesn't your fan blades may hit the housing. If they do you can remove a defroster hose and adjust with a pair of pliers.
